Appears NEW AND UNREAD! Just a hint of edgewear otherwise pristine. From the publisher :"Despite its title, this is not a book about occult practices. Spiritualism was in its heyday when this book first appeared. The author, trusting intuitive methods in healing, and "convinced of the existence of intelligent spirit," was guided by her common sense. Health concerns were not so different in her time than in our own: pollution, incompetent medical treatment and dangerous chemical drugs. Mrs. Matteson's book is valuable for many simple and formulated recipes using herbs, fruits and spices. This edition makes available an important American herbal which deserves a modern-day audience."

Soft Cover

Appears NEW AND UNREAD! From the back cover:"The subtle art of energy management for prosperity, good health, and calm mind has been introduced to the West through feng shui. Until now the ancient practice of vaastu, the Hindu art of environmental design, has been relatively unknown. Born of the same Hindu understanding of universal forces that informs yoga, vaastu is the human expression of life?s impulse to harmonize itself with the cosmos. The great culture at Harrapa, in 3000 B.C., applied vaastu to create cities at a level of sophistication that would only be reached again in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Housed in a library in north India, the codified tenets of vaastu were destroyed in medieval times by successive invaders into the country; however, the art of vaastu remained alive, through oral tradition and buried deep within other treatises. The rediscovery of these texts in the 1930s has led to a modern revival of this art in India--brought to Western readers for the first time in V aastu:The Indian Art of Placement. Vaastu elucidates principles that orient and plan each element of a structure, both the big picture and the small details. A building?s site, ground plan, shape, and orientation are all-important considerations, as are soil quality, window placement, and construction materials. The affinities of household items--the telephone, computer, bath--with the five elements of nature, and thus their ideal placement within the structure, are also described. Guidelines for modifying existing buildings help the reader apply the vaastu principles in a practical manner. Vaastu: The Indian Art of Placement will assist in creating personal environments that promote peace, harmony, and health. "

First Edition

Hardcover 1st edition. Former owner's name on FFEP, lacks dj, otherwise a fine clean solid copy. From the publisher:"Supported by the New York Psychosomatic Cancer Study Group and the Gotthard Booth Society for Holistic Health. The wide publicity given to statistical surveys of cigarette and other tobacco habits in terms of an aetiological factor in lung cancer has relegated to the background many other possible components, particularly in the sphere of personality and emotional constellations. This work presents Gotthard Booth's studies of persons who developed cancer, with observations and an experimental approach, the results of which are given in categories of Rorschach responses in order to gain information about the subjects' personalities in terms of intellectual function, emotional control, present content, mental conflicts, creative imagination, and fundamental instinctive drives. From these studies and from the known aspects of the cancer situation the author suggests that cancer is an expression of the personality type and that the cancer patient is dominated by anal components. Rich in new ideas with a wealth of informative material to be considered in practical applications, not only in the field of psychopathology but also in general medicine."

Hardcover 1st edition. Minor rippling of back of the dust jacket, otherwise all else fine. From the publisher:"Renowned cardiologist, William Davis, MD explains how eliminating wheat from our diets can prevent fat storage, shrink unsightly bulges, and reverse myriad health problems. Every day, over 200 million Americans consume food products made of wheat. As a result, over 100 million of them experience some form of adverse health effect, ranging from minor rashes and high blood sugar to the unattractive stomach bulges that preventive cardiologist William Davis calls ?wheat bellies.? According to Davis, that excess fat has nothing to do with gluttony, sloth, or too much butter: It?s due to the whole grain wraps we eat for lunch. After witnessing over 2,000 patients regain their health after giving up wheat, Davis reached the disturbing conclusion that wheat is the single largest contributor to the nationwide obesity epidemic?and its elimination is key to dramatic weight loss and optimal health. In Wheat Belly, Davis exposes the harmful effects of what is actually a product of genetic tinkering and agribusiness being sold to the American public as ?wheat??and provides readers with a user-friendly, step-by-step plan to navigate a new, wheat-free lifestyle. Informed by cutting-edge science and nutrition, along with case studies from men and women who have experienced life-changing transformations in their health after waving goodbye to wheat, Wheat Belly is an illuminating look at what is truly making Americans sick and an action plan to clear our plates of this seemingly benign ingredient."

BRAND NEW UNREAD COPY SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Exposed is a collection of non-fiction articles blended with history, science, and politics that tell the true story of Libby, Montana: a small town exposed to toxic asbestos fibres from the W.R. Grace mine production during 1963 to 1990. The book covers other related topics such as mesothelioma, asbestosis, and the characteristics of vermiculite and asbestos. W.R. Grace sold Zonolite Attic Insulation worldwide from 1963 to 1984. The company was indicted in February 2005 for several charges including wired fraud, Clean Air Act violations, and concealment of information about asbestos health hazards from Libby residents. W.R. Grace's trial, originally set for September 2006, has been postponed to the following year. This book is meant as an introduction to the asbestos issues and the W.R. Grace scandal. Exposed aims to bridge the gap between science and the lay reader, by producing a text that is simple and readable. Do you have Zonolite in your attic? Apparently millions of people do. In “Exposed,” Demetra Dimokopoulos tells the disturbing true story behind this once-popular product. Zonolite was produced by a company based in the small town of Libby, Montana. The company was a major local employer, offering security and good pay. But what the workers didn’t know—although the company itself did—was that they were working with a product contaminated with a toxic mineral: tremolite asbestos. When inhaled, tremolite fibres lodge in the lungs and can eventually develop into cancerous tumours. Those who worked with Zonolite usually came home covered in dust and so unknowingly exposed their families to the danger. In the 1970s, Dimokopoulos reports, Libby residents breathed in millions of asbestos fibres every day. Inevitably, some of them went on to develop the lung disease asbestosis while others now suffer from a rare cancer called mesothelioma. Dimokopoulos is a recent graduate of the University of Toronto, and “Exposed” is her first book. She recounts this public health disaster in a clear, journalistic writing style. She explains asbestos-related diseases without getting bogged down in medical details, and includes ghastly photos of diseased organs. For further information, there are some website addresses and many references. This short, thought-provoking book will likely leave you feeling outraged. How could a company dare to deceive its employees for so long? And how can we prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again? Reviewed by Julie Falkner, Allbooks Review
